I recently lost all the files in my computer, including several thousand saved links and images of briefly-acknowledged art to refer to at a later date. While the reality of this still hasn’t set in, Montrealer Julien Vallée‘s piece for Illustrative Zurich stuck in my head.
I hated this the first ten times I saw it, and didn’t fully appreciate it until last night, when I sat thinking about vector art and colour wheels. The key words I used to track it down included “light passing violently through a prism” and I would love to find this hanging at the entrance to the giant three-story open-plan art supply shop in Soho with the walls and walls of colour-co-ordinated sketchbooks and paint pens.
His high-saturation, angular designs are so full of life and energy, and I will readily accept another year of MTV-style art and advertising at his hand.
